Amazon Layoffs Hit 4 States Today

Some job losses are at the corporate office in New York City, while others are tied to the shuttering of Amazon Fresh grocery stores. Amazon is also laying off 691 workers on Monday in Virginia.
Not sure if this is in response to internal bean counters or reduced external demand, but it doesn't even make sense to buy from them without Prime nowadays. I can literally get items from almost any local store the same day or next day for cheap or free. Some online retailers can get me stuff same week, and Amazon with their massive warehouse down the block can't do it within five days most of the time unless I pay for shipping... At which point I'd rather just shop almost anywhere else.
I refuse to subscribe to Prime because I'm sick of all these companies trying to lock me into their own business. I'll just go source locally, shop around online, or pay the shipping at Amazon once every two months when I truly can't find what I need at a reasonable price anywhere else.

Just capitalist being capitalists. Amazon still breaks volume records every year and demand has not slumped. Just gotta try and make the company even more profitable every year somehow.

I did look up sales volumes/revenue as I was typing my original comment and was pretty disappointed seeing the endless rise. My values seem to drift further from society's every year it seems lol... maybe for the best..

Getting fired is when a worker fucked up, layoffs are when management fucked up. Laying off hundreds or thousands of workers across multiple states is a fuck up probably on the scale of negligence. But under corporatism/fascism wealthy idiots who pay the right bribes aren't held accountable.
