U.S. President Donald Trump — who regularly launches lawsuits and verbal tirades against news outlets and journalists he dislikes — will be the featured guest at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Association dinner, an annual gala celebrating freedom of the press.

It's the first time Trump will attend the event as president.

The association's decision to welcome him is drawing sharp criticism and prompting concern about the potential impact on public perception of the news media that cover the White House.

Six national journalism advocacy groups say Trump has engaged in "the most systematic and comprehensive assault on freedom of the press by a sitting American president."

That assault, according to a lengthy list compiled by the groups, has included trying to ban journalists from reporting any defence-related news without Pentagon approval, launching federal investigations into major broadcast outlets over their coverage and suing the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the parent company of CBS News for alleged defamation.

I can't believe they're actually going to broadcast porn. I have no interest in watching all the media outlets attending take turns giving Trump a blowjob.

Does anyone actually think Trump would attend if there was ANY chance that they would say ANYTHING negative about him there?

I hope they make it a point to play the entirety of Obama’s 2011 Correspondence Dinner speech roasting Trump

He made like one offhanded joke about trump...

Do people really think Obama just talked at length about trump back in 2011?

No but that was probably such a humiliating moment for Trump that it's commonly believed it may have been the driver that sent him down this path.

I mean, at least one person clearly does...

I was asking them to try and find out where they got that line of thinking from in an attempt to see if it's widespread...

Someone else who has never heard of that belief saying they havent heard anyone who believes is fucking useless, even if not in the same comment chain as someone who believes it.

There's loads of shit people believe that you don't know about, stop acting like trump and assuming you know everything and everyone thinks like you.

It would be amazing if no one showed up for the dinner. Trump just gives a speech to an empty audience.

For future instances where that's gonna be your plan...

It works better if you type "cancel" instead of "reply", or even just not typing it in the first place

The driver is Trump's malignant narcissism and sociopathy. His racism also had something to do with it. Even if Obama had said nothing, Trump would still be on a rampage.
