Are you insinuating that they should just change lanes regardless of if its safe? Two lanes going different speeds, cant match the speed the lane next to you because theres too much traffic, just fuck go for it?

"I had my turn SIGNAL on. Told you I was coming! Wasnt asking!"

The car changing lanes is at fault for any accident or damage, and can even be cited for an unsafe change even if they dont cause an accident.

Please drive safe and not like an entitled asshole.

      Let you switch lanes?

As they say in Rome, carpe viam. Don't ask for permission, just start moving your car towards the other fuckers. They'll move if they prefer not to have scratches on their car.

Oh also you're gonna wanna drive a shitbox in case they decide to tank those scratches.

Some people feel like this, "why didn't others make way, I had my blinker on!". But it's the responsibility of the one joining the lane to actually make sure there's room. Some just fucking smash into the lane and I dunno hope for the best, but they're the one's who would have to pay for the damages

Where I live sometimes if you don't just jump in the lane and push people out of the way they won't let you. They see a turn signal as a challenge to their authority

You are sorta responsible for finding the room to safely join a lane, blinker or no blinker. It's a risk to do it otherwise because if you hit the other car you're of course responsible, unless there's some specific rule in effect in that part

I get why people do it but expecting others to make room for you might end up costing a lot

Someone breaking the law and hitting your car should be an easy claim, but here we just call the cops if there's a disagreement over who caused what. Makes claim stuff (even) easier.

Doesn't stop people just trying to smash into others though

I drive a transport truck for a living.

When I signal to change lanes, it's very much a SIGNAL, not a REQUEST. If you want to request eating the inside of the median because you won't let me over, that's your choice.

I had to learn this quick when I lived in Philadelphia for a couple years. Works great everywhere else, too!

I live in a Philly suburb (in Delco) and driving here is crazy enough, but whenever I drive into the city the transition to the Mad Max state of mind is just insane.

this is also why i try to leave at least a trailer's length, two if traffic's good, between me and the next car. If a transport truck can get in front of me, do their elephant race, and get out from in front of me, without either of us breaking a sweat, that's a good interaction on the road.

my wife has at times accused me of driving like an old man. and... my nickname has been grandpa since i was in my 20s and maybe that's because i had some really cool grandpas. but like, i swear karma exists on the roads out here. if i make room for you, there will be room for me. it's called karma.

I like to imagine we'd all be happier and better people if city infrastructure wasn't designed around trying to get cars from A to B instead of people.

lucky so and so. i got hit last year while taking a nap in the passenger seat while my wife was in the library. to be perfectly clear we were parked. she teases me that i cannot even be left alone in the car that was number 11 for me (and only one was maybe 30% my fault dammit). You know how some people weird things just happen to?

When you're overtaking someone going slow

Quit speeding. Changing lanes all willy nilly hurts traffic, not helps it. Statistically, you go the fastest when choosing a lane and staying there. The three seconds you save getting to your destination isn’t worth making all the traffic behind you worse. And while you’re at it, leave at least one car length in front of you for every 10mph you’re going. You shouldn’t have to rely on your brakes to slow down on the highway.

Thanks for mansplaining basic driving concepts.

Don't act on your assumptions as though they're reality. You'll always be wrong and appear insane.

If it helps, lane changing is one of the main reasons for congestion so if you're only making a short trip (e.g. same city) you might as well keep right-ish.

In heavy traffic it's usually not even much slower, and sometimes even faster, so I often stay in the right two lanes if I'm just going downtown or something. I usually also help with the flow of traffic by letting people in and out for the three or four exits I'm passing, since I try not to tailgate.

That works great until the exit is on the left.

I went into a clothing store in the 90s and heard this song playing. I never heard it on the radio before or after that one day (I think it was in a fashion bug?), but it was memorable enough to stick in my head for the rest of that day and I seem to randomly remember it approximately once every decade.

Your post did it this decade.

from my experience driving in and out of chicago i learned quickly that you have to MAKE them let you in. as someone who grew up on a gravel road it was an interesting experience the first couple times lol

There's nothing wrong with packing a bag with 2 pairs of jeans, 4 shirts, and taking the first available flight out of town. (Am so close to trying this, except from my local airport, it will probably go from Nowhere, to Slightly-Bigger-Nowhere)
