Didn't read the article. I'm assuming it's to cover their asses for the next admin that might prosecute or punish them.

So uh, it says that if Purdue takes the deal and changes into a public benefit company, the money they make goes to opioid treatment programs, but it never says anything about where the billions in penalties is going.... This is a disgusting deal.

Oh
Killing people knowingly selling harmful products = fines.
Killing people by refusing to cover medical care = shrug.
Killing people by refusing them access to food and shelter... Goal achievement.
Shooting those responsible = prison or the death penalty.
When you pay to make the rules, this is what you get.

5 billion? It should be their entire revenue since the first time one of their sales reps lied about the addiction potential. The fines should pierce the corporate veil. Everyone who has ever been an executive or board member should be in prison for the rest of their miserable lives. The entire company should be liquidated and all their patents rescinded.
